You've Inherited A Property - Now What Should You Do?

Inheriting a property from someone can be a blessing or a curse. Let's say you are contacted by a lawyer who informs you that your Aunt/Uncle passed away. You are the heir to their estate - a single family home 2000 miles from you.

You've never been to the city. You have no idea what condition the house is in. You don't even know if it's paid for.

Now What?

First you should find out as much about the property as possible. Is there a mortgage? Are the property taxes paid up? What's the condition of the house? Does the house go through probate or is there a trust? These are all important questions you need answers to before you make some decisions.

Once you've got some information you can make a rational decision. Keep it and rent it out? Are you ready to be a long distance landlord?  Sell it? Are repairs needed to make it attractive to a new buyer?  Do you have a realtor in the area you can work with that knows the market?

There are other options, you can sell to an investor, like us, and we can help you through this process. There are no sales commissions, we can close quickly, and we buy the property in 'as is' condition - meaning you don't need to travel to the distant city, find someone to make the repairs, manage the remodel, and pay for it.
